A pioneering research initiative is set to take place during the CSIT 2025 World Sports Games, which will be held from June 3 to June 8, 2025, in the city of Loutraki.
For the first time in the history of this significant international sports event, a consortium of distinguished universities will join forces to study the broad impact of the games. This research will examine the effects on the amateur athletes participating, the organizations facilitating their participation, and the local community hosting the event.
This initiative is led by the Sports Organizational Behavior Lab at Texas A&M University (USA), with support from the UNESCO Chair for Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport based at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar). Collaborating partners include Molde University College (Norway), the University of Florida (USA), and Louisiana State University (USA).
During the games, professors and researchers will gather in the city of Loutraki to conduct in-depth studies, collecting valuable data and insights that will contribute to a broader understanding of the social and organizational impacts of large multi-sport events such as the World Workers’ and Amateurs’ Games.
“This research is a pioneering effort aimed at documenting the broader positive impacts on participants, organizations, and host communities,” said Dr. Min Jung Kim, head of the lab at Texas A&M University. “We are excited to lead this research and look forward to sharing our findings with the international community.”
Professor Christos Anagnostopoulos, holder of the UNESCO Chair, added, “The social responsibility of the Chair concerns how sport can be used as a tool for positive change. The well-being of workers is one such positive change, and this major sports event will help us document it.”
